Tourism is the next Booming Industry in China

Jim Rogers believes that tourism would be one of the next booming industries in China. He said that in the past, the Chinese people seldom chose to travel overseas. But nowadays it has become a lot easier for Chinese tourists to obtain passports and Visa, which makes travelling internationally much easier. This is one of the reasons why Rogers believes tourism in China will have a bright future.

Jim Rogers is Long China

You've said that there’s unlikely to be an economic crash like famed short-seller, Jim Chanos, and others are forecasting.

Jim Rogers : That’s not right. What I’ve said is that China is the next great country in the world. There’ll certainly be setbacks along the way.
In the 19th century, as America was rising to power, it had 15 depressions, a horrible Civil War, massacres in the streets and little in the way of human rights. And yet, America turned out to be pretty successful.
China will have setbacks along the way. I have no idea what, when, why or how. But China is the largest creditor nation in the world and if and when they have setbacks, I would rather be investing money with creditor nations such as China than debtor nations.
I have frequently said that we’ll have people in the real estate business going bankrupt in China because the government is trying to cool off that particular sector. But on the other hand, other parts of the Chinese economy will continue to do extremely well.
If you’re in agriculture in China, you won’t know whether real estate speculators in Shanghai are going broke because you’ll be too busy making money yourself. - in Asia's Money Masters

If You Are in Agriculture in China, You’ll be too busy Making Money

Turning to Asia and the economy everyone’s focused on: China. You’re on record saying that the economic slowdown in China won’t get too serious. Do you maintain that view?

Jim Rogers : I’m not sure where I said that. Where did I say that?

Jim Rogers : China is vastly different from Dubai

Jim Rogers : Few seem to understand the historical significance of what is happening there. E.g. Gordon Chang has been writing books and articles since 2001 predicting the collapse of China and the disappearance of the Communist Party. Jim Chanos has been predicting the collapse of China since 2009 saying it will be “1000 times worse than Dubai”. [Jim Rogers explained at the time that showed no understanding of Dubai or of China.] Many in China do not fully understand either.
As the US was rising to its power and glory during the 19th Century, we had a horrible civil war, 15 depressions [Yes, with a D.], few human rights, little rule of law, periodic massacres in the streets, etc., etc. yet we still became the most successful country in the 20th Century.
China will have plenty of setbacks along the way as does every country, company, family, and individual that rises.
The Chinese government is trying to cool real estate so Jim Rogers would avoid Chinese Real Estate.

Jim Rogers Bullish on Water - China, India, America all have water problems

What is your outlook on global interest rates? In which direction are they likely to move?
The interest rates are going higher in most countries. Countries like Turkey, Indonesia and India had advantage of low interest rates. But these countries are going to suffer because the interest rates are going to be higher and there won't be any cheap money. Then China is also cooling off, there are many things happening around the world. The underlying situation is getting worse with interest rates going higher and printing of money.
Which are the sectors you have considered to place your bets in 2014?
I am bullish on agriculture, I am bullish on airlines. The Chinese government had said in late November that they are going to spend big money over the next 10-20 years in railroads and pollution control measures. Apart from China, there are many other countries that will spend in these sectors. Water is another sector where I am bullish. China, India, America all have water problems. - in ET Now

China will have plenty of setbacks along the way as it rises

BI: What is the one thing people get wrong when they talk about China?

This is What Worries Jim Rogers The Most about China

Business Insider: What worries you the most about China right now?

Jim Rogers : The high levels of debt in some areas. Some of the provinces and companies have built up debt in recent years during the recovery, since there has been so very much artificial liquidity all over the world.
All the money printing in the developed world is causing distortions everywhere including China.  - in Business Insider

Water Shortage is the Biggest Problem in China

American investor and author Jim Rogers says water shortage is the biggest problem in China. The country's water resources are limited but reuse of water is still insufficient and groundwater is being overexploited, reports ifeng, the financial news site run by Phoenix New Media in Hong Kong.

War, famine, civil war or recession can be overcome but drought cannot; people cannot build a society or a country without water, the investor said during an interview with the media.

China is one of 13 countries with the poorest water resources per capita in the world. Its freshwater resources per capita are only one fourth of the global average. As of the second half of 2005, the country had a water shortage of six billion cubic meters. Around 400 of the 660 cities in the country suffered from various degrees of water shortage. Of which the shortage in 136 cities are severe. The figure for water resources per capita in Beijing is close to those in Arab countries, where water is scarce. The groundwater in half of the cities in the country is also polluted.

This is What Worries Me About China

The only thing that worries me about China is the water problem. If they don`t solve the water problem, there is no China story. They know that too and they are spending a lot of money trying to sort out their water problem. But that`s the only thing that would end the China story. Everything else is temporary and is not a problem.

Jim Rogers : China Trying to Slow its Economy

China has been trying to slow its economy for quite some time now. They’ve had an inflation problem. They’ve had a real estate bubble. But I know . . . that something positive is going on in China and has been for a while. They are growing, they have a high savings rate, they have a high rate of investment, and they have huge international reserves,”

China has Water Problems

China has a major water problem. The only way the China story runs into big problems is if they run out of water. They are working hard to solve it. I believe they will solve it. If you want to make a lot of money find companies that are working to fix that problem.

As for their stock market, it’s getting closer to a buy. I bought a few shares on Friday. Their market is getting to the point it should be bought.
