India Is Blaming Gold For Their Problems

Gold has not caused their problems, gold is a symptom of their problems, but politicians are pretty simple-minded people and they look for the easy answer.” - in Mineweb

Gold Needs A Correction To Find A New Base, A New Bottom

"So now, it's having a long overdue and much needed correction that could last, I don’t know, several days, weeks, months or more. But it's good for the gold market because gold needs to make a correction, find a new base, a new bottom, and then the bull market can continue." - in Money News

All The Signs Are That There's Too Much Speculation In Gold Right Now

I own gold and I own silver. I own all the precious metals, especially gold and silver. I'm not sure I would buy right now. Gold has gone up 12 years in a row, which is extremely unusual for any asset, at least in my experience. I don’t know any asset that’s gone up 12 years without a down year except gold. Gold has had only one decline over 30 percent in those 12 years. That, too, is extremely unusual.

Plus, if you look at the open interest from the CFTC, the speculators have been piling into gold. The number of call options is more than twice the put options. All the signs are that there's too much speculation in gold right now. I’m not selling, by any stretch. I own it. If it goes down, I’ll buy more.

If America bombs Iran, I’ll probably buy more going up. But I own it and, over the longer term, gold is going to go much higher because the world is doing nothing but printing money. And when the world economies get bad again, they're going to print even more money. But I'm not buying now. - in Index Universe

Im certainly not selling Gold

This [Gold] correction could last another few months. I don't know, I'm not a market timer. I'm terrible at short-term trading. But if it goes down more I hope I'm smart enough to buy more. I'm certainly not selling [gold].

GOLD : There will be Rallies after Big Drops

Business Insider: How much lower do you expect gold prices to go?

Jim Rogers

Jim Rogers

Jim Rogers : I am useless as a market timer/trader. Having said that, a 50% correction is normal in markets so why not in gold? The 12-year rise was an anomaly in markets so the correction may continue to be an anomaly. There will be rallies after big drops, but I expect another opportunity to buy gold. - in businessinsider

My Gold is My Insurance Policy , I will never sell it

BGG: What tip-offs are you looking for for where the top of the market is and when would you start to see the collapse coming? Are there signs that you’re looking for?

Jim Rogers : Well, I wish I was that smart or it was that easy. Back in the late 1970s, Mr. Volcker was told and he came in and said: “I am going to kill inflation because Mr. Carter has told me to.” And Mr. Carter was very clear that he had to stop inflation. I doubt if we’ll have that kind of scenario again but we would think, we would hope, that the Federal Reserve will announce, you know, that they publish their numbers so we can all see what’s happening. At the moment they are buying a trillion dollars a year – that’s a trillion with a “T” – of assets. Eventually we will see that they stop that if they do or slow it down.
What will probably happen is that they will slow it down at first to see what happens, and if things aren’t too bad at first – and they probably won’t be too bad at first – well what is likely to happen is they will slow it down, things will drop, and then they will rally and the Federal Reserve will say “Hey, this is not so bad, we can do it.” And they’ll cut some more. Things will drop again and then rally, because it will take a while for people to really believe how bad it can get, or will get. And so eventually they will try to cut [QE], it will finally cause the collapse, at that point we will have a big change, because they will throw them out, whether it’s the politicians or the central bankers or whoever … will continue because they like it, they got the job because of the collapse and then we’ll finally start over. But it may be really painful in the meantime.
“I’ve owned gold for many years, I’ve never sold any gold and I can’t imagine I ever will sell gold in my life because it is somewhat of an insurance policy.” - in a recent interview with BirchGold

Jim Rogers Not Optimistic about GOLD at the moment

Jim Rogers I am not optimistic about gold at the moment because what is happening in India is possibly going to ruin the gold market for a while. If I can stay solvent, and alert, maybe that will lead to a huge buying opportunity in gold again.

India is the largest buyer of gold in the world, has been until recently, now China is eclipsing them because India is cutting back. The indian government is blaming all of its problems on gold, they do not take responsibility, no politician ever has. So they put some tariffs, doing their best to make it impossible to import gold.

Jim Rogers to The Money Show : Gold , The final bottom is not in Yet

NANCY:  So are we having a rally in gold right now?  A mini rally?

JIM ROGERS:  Yes and no; it depends on which day you’re talking about.  I own gold and I’ve owned gold for many, many decades.  The situation with gold, gold went up 12 years in a row and Nancy, I know of no asset in history that’s gone up 12 years without a down year, so the anomaly has been how strong gold was, so gold is now correcting.  In my view, the correction will be an anomaly too, because of the previous 12 years, so I would suspect you’ll gold have correcting for a year…two…three , I don’t know how long, and how low it will go, but it’s not going to be normal.  There’s still too many people who believe and not enough people who’ve given up on gold yet.  So I own gold.  I haven’t sold any gold.  Every once in awhile when it’s down, I buy more.  But the bottom, I don’t think is in.  The final bottom is not in yet.

GOLD could Top $1900/oz in 5-10 Years

Jim Rogers : I do not think in one or two years |i think it more likely to go down to a $100/oz or $900/oz or whatever , but certainly within five to ten years there is very question in my mind that it will go to well over $1900/oz

Jim Rogers Calls For A Gold Price Drop To $900

The reason: “massive currency debasement” around the world. “Every major central bank in the world is printing a lot of money plus war, chaos, riots in the street, governments failing,” says Rogers.

India Blames GOLD for its Deficit

India scapegoats gold

In my view, the main reason for the correction, other than the fact that it needed it, was on account of Indian politicians who suddenly blamed their problems on gold. The three largest imports to India are crude oil, gold and cooking oil. Since they can’t do anything about crude and vegetable oil, the politicians said India’s problems were because of gold, which, in my view, is totally outrageous.

But like all politicians across the world, the Indians too needed a scapegoat. Is this the reason why gold started correcting? I don’t know. But, India is the largest importer of gold, and whenever the largest buyer cuts back, there will be a correction, whatever is the commodity. The correction may continue for several more weeks, months or even a year or two. A 50% correction is common for commodities, but if gold were to correct 50% before it made its final bottom, that would be between $900-1,000.

GOLD : I bought some at $1200 just in case

ET Now : What about gold? MCX gold by virtue of what the currency has done as well is trading at newer highs. It has gained quite a bit in the last few days as well. How much further do you think gold can move up to - internationally or possibly in India?

Jim Rogers: I bought some internationally when it collapsed. When it got to $1200, I bought some just in case I suspect that there are going to be future opportunities in the international markets. India has got their situation with your currency which makes it more and more difficult for you to judge the timing because you have to get the currency and the western price of gold right. I am not buying gold in the west at the moment. I am just watching, expecting another chance to buy. But if war breaks out in the next week or month or something, who knows how high India is going to go and it looks like war might break out.
