Why own Stocks when one can own Commodities

Jim Rogers : well, I'm short emerging markets. I'm short American technology. I'm short European stocks. I don't see much reason to own stocks, Melissa, when one can own commodities. if the world gets better, I'm going to make a lot of money in commodities because of the shortages. if the world doesn't get shortages. if the world doesn't get better, shortages in commodities but then governments will print money and whenever governments have printed money, the way to protect yourself is to own real assets. - in CNBC

  1. Excuse me, Jim, but have you noticed what MF Global did to Gerald Celente? They simply STOLE HIS GOLD.

So how are people supposed to "own" commodities when, in the final analysis, all they really end up with are fraud vouchers for tangible items which they will not physically be in possession of? I am failing to see how ANYTHING purchased over the exchange markets now has ANY real reliability to it!

  2. Hmm... useful _and_ safe commodities? Well I considered buying 10,000 cans of baked beans, but I'm not sure where to store them. Or should I spread my risk, going for mixed canned and dried foods?
